Cruise Line Job Types List Types of Employment

Deck Department

Great variety of work exists within this department from walking the decks and mixing with the passengers as a deck assistant to the captain of the vessel responsible for all that sail on her. If your ambitious this could be your department to excel and reach the top.

Deck Assistants (Salary $900-$1200 US dollars per month)
You will be responsible for general duties on the deck e.g. running errands for paying guests, giving directions to various parts of the vessel. No previous experience required for this position although basis English is generally requested by potential employer.

Seaman (Salary $1400-$1700 US dollars per month)
You will be responsible for a variety of general duties throughout the vessel e.g. painting, moving chairs from different department etc. No previous experience required for this position although basis English is generally requested by potential employer.

Security Personnel (Salary $1500-$1800 US dollars per month)
Reporting to the Security Officer you will be responsible for the onboard security of the crew and paying passengers. Special attention is given at visiting ports to ensure no unauthorised boarding of the vessel. Previous experience within such a field is essential along with a good standard of English. Possible promotion to the position of Security Officer.

Maintenance Supervisor (Salary $1600-$2000 US dollars per month)
Responsible for supervision of activities within each working station onboard the vessel. Reporting to the Safety Officer you will conduct a sort of incident prevention observation process. Previous experience within a similar role would be desirable although consideration would be given to people with previous onboard knowledge. Good English skills required as the role involves a high degree of communication.

Junior Officer (Salary $1600-$2200 US dollars per month)
You will be training to become a navigational officer on the bridge of the vessel. 2 years plus previous experience onboard ships along with seasoned knowledge of all navigational equipment. Fluent English is a requirement for this position onboard.

Safety Officer (Salary $2600-$3200 US dollars per month)
Responsible for the safety of the crew and paying guests. Duties would include tasks such as chairing the crew safety meetings and ensuring that guests are aware of emergency evacuation procedures in the event of an unforeseen event. Previous experience within a similar role would be essential along with a health and safety formal certificate. Fluent English a requirement for this position.

Security Officer (Salary $2200-$2700 US dollars per month)
Ensuring overall responsibility for the onboard security of the crew and paying passengers. Special attention is given at visiting ports to ensure no unauthorised boarding of the vessel. Previous experience within such a field is essential along with a good standard of English.

Radio Officer (Salary $2000-$2500 US dollars per month)
Reporting to the Chief Radio Officer you would be responsible for radio communications between vessel and shore and vessel to vessel. Other duties would be the maintenance and repair of all communication equipment onboard the ship. Previous experience within a similar role is essential for this highly specialised position along with fluent English.

Chief Radio Officer (Salary $2600-$3200 US dollars per month)
Undertaking full responsibility for the entire radio communications between vessel and shore and vessel to vessel. Other duties would be to oversee the Radio Officers maintenance and repair program of all communication equipment onboard the ship. Previous experience within a similar role is essential for this highly specialised position along with fluent English.

1st,2nd & 3rd Officer (Salary $2500-$4500 US dollars per month)
Reporting directly to the Ship Captain you will be responsible for the navigation of the vessel working from the bridge. Extensive experience required along with formal maritime qualification for this position. Fluent English a requirement for all three positions.

Staff Captain (Salary $5000-$8000 US dollars per month)
Reporting directly to the Ship Captain you will be second in charge of the entire vessel, ensuring all departments are working as a team and co-ordinating their operations to maintain the cruise timetable and standards. Extensive experience required along with formal maritime qualification for this position. Fluent English is a requirement. Potential promotion to Ship Captain from this position.

Ship Captain (Salary $6000-$10000 US dollars per month)
Responsible for all operations onboard the vessel. Extensive experience required along with formal maritime qualifications such as a Captains Licence is required for this position. Fluent English is essential.
