Cruise Line Job Types List Types of Employment

Housekeeping Department

This departmentís responsibilities are to ensure each guestís sleeping quarters (cabins) are maintained daily to a predetermined set standard. From bell staff reacting to the in-cabin needs of the passengers, to the laundry section ensuring that the towels are replaced every day, this department requires to pull together as a team to ensure minimum passenger disruption. Below are a selection of jobs available within the housekeeping department.

Cleaner (Salary $700- $1000 US dollars per month)
Responsible for various cleaning duties within the housekeeping department. No previous experience required for this position. Basic English vocabulary is generally sought by employers. Potential promotion opportunities into other on-board positions could be achieved from this position.

Bell Staff (Salary $1100-$1300 US dollars per month)
Responsible for services direct to the passengers sleeping quarters e.g. breakfast, drinks etc. No previous experience required for this position although a good grasp of English is desirable.

Assistant Cabin Steward/Stewardess (Salary $1200-$1500 US dollars per month)
Reporting to the Cabin Stewards you would be responsible for various cleaning duties with the passenger cabins e.g. changing laundry. No previous experience required and basic English skills accepted. Promotion opportunities to Cabin Steward/Stewardess.

Laundry/Linen Keeper (Salary $800-$1100 US dollars per month)
Reporting to the Assistant Laundry Supervisor you will be responsible to give aid in processing all the laundry requirements of crew and passengers. No previous experience required for this position although a basic level of English is preferred. Promotion opportunities to Assistant Laundry Supervisor from this position.

Assistant Laundry/Linen Supervisor (Salary $1000-$1400 US dollars per month)
Reporting to the Laundry Supervisor you will be responsible for the processing of all the laundry and dry cleaning requirements of the crew and passengers. Previous experience within a similar position would be an advantage for this position along with reasonable English skills. Possible promotion to Laundry Supervisor.

Laundry Supervisor (Salary $1200-$1700 US dollars per month)
Overseeing the whole laundry department ensuring that all laundry is turned around within the desired time frame. Previous experience within a similar position would be an advantage along with good English skills.

Cabin Steward (Salary $1700-$2300 US dollars per month)
Reporting to the Head Steward/Stewardess you will be responsible for the thorough cleaning of passenger cabins and giving direction to the Assistant Cabin Stewards. Previous experience within a similar role is advantageous along with reasonable English skills. Promotional possibilities to Head Steward/Stewardess.

Head Steward (Salary $2000-$2800 US dollars per month)
Reporting to the Floor Supervisor you will oversee that passenger cabins are being cleaned to an acceptable standard. Previous experience within a similar position is desirable for this position along with good English skills.

Floor Supervisor (Salary $2400-$3500 US dollars per month)
Reporting to the Assistant Chief Housekeeper you will generally be in charge of all housekeeping duties on a certain floor or floors on the vessel. Previous experience is essential for this position along with good English skills.

Assistant Chief Housekeeper (Salary $2500-$3700 US dollars per month)
Reporting to the Chief Housekeeper you will be responsible for all operations within the housekeeping department and relationships within. Previous experience is essential for this position along with good English skills.

Chief Housekeeper (Salary $3000-$4000 US dollars per month)
Overseeing all operations within the housekeeping department and all relationships within. Previous experience is essential for this position along with good English skills.
