Cruise Line Job Types List Types of Employment

Other Jobs (No allocated department)

Within this section we have listed various jobs that cannot be categorised into a specific department. For example a carpenter may be repairing a chair in a bar lounge then onto a sideboard within a crew or passenger cabin. These jobs although sometimes specialised will give the employee a great deal of variety throughout the vessel during the cruise. Below we list a number of examples:-

Pool Attendant (Salary $900-$1300 US dollars per month)
Responsible for various duties around the swimming pool on the vessel e.g. cleaning, fetching fresh towels for passengers etc. No previous experience required for this position although a basic level of English is preferred.

General Staff (Salary $1500-$2000 Us dollars per month)
Assisting in a variety of tasks to take over at short notice for staff problems such as crew sickness. No experience required although a flexible approach to work essential. Good English skills required.

Shop Assistants (Salary $1600-$2000 US dollars per month)
Supplying general assistance within the many different types of shops onboard cruise ships. No previous experience required for these positions although good English is generally requested by employers.

Upholsterer (Salary $900-$1300 US dollars per month)
Responsible for the rectification of on-board furniture. Generally no experience required for this position although a basic level of English is beneficial.

Fireman (Salary $1400-$1800 US dollars per month)
Responsible to maintain fire safety onboard the vessel. Previous fire fighting experience beneficial regarding this position along with a good level of English.

Gift Shop Manager (Salary $2000-$3000 US dollars per month)
Responsible for all the operations within the contained shop floor e.g. stocktaking, cash handling etc. Previous experience within a similar position is required along with fluent English.

Photographers (Salary $2000-$2500 US dollars per month)
Responsible for processing film and taking passenger pictures on request. Previous photographic experience required along with fluent English skills.

Activities Co-ordinator (Salary $1500-$2200 US dollars per month)
Organising activities onboard the vessel for all age groups, especially the younger children onboard. Previous experience working with children is desirable although not essential. Fluent in English is required.

Fitness Instructor (Salary $1800-£2300 US dollars per month)
Responsible to organise and assist client requests for sports and fitness activities. Previous experience within a similar position is requested along with fluent English.

Carpenter (Salary $1800-$2000 US dollars per month)
Responsible for various woodwork repairs onboard and alterations as the vessel sails on it’s journey. Time qualified tradesmen required for this position although consideration will be given to people from a similar background onboard a vessel. Basic English skills would be expected for this position.
